Etymology: Apistogramma: Greek, apisto = uncertain + Greek, gramma = graphic signal (Ref. 45335); cruzi: Named after José Cruz Rodriguez, motorista and skilled volunteer co-collector.
Eponymy: José Cruz Rodriguez was, as the etymology states: “… motorista and skilled volunteer co-collector on visits both to Pebas in 1981 and Mazán in 1984”, who was honoured “…in recognition of his tireless help on those trips which added considerably to [...] (Ref. 128868), visit book page.
