Cichlidae (Cichlids) > Pseudocrenilabrinae
Etymology: Aulonocara: Greek, aulos = flute + Greek, kara = face, head (Ref. 45335).
More on author: Trewavas.
Issue
Quote Snoeks and Hanssens (Ref. 55954): "We were unable to examine the holotype of A. macrochir Trewavas, 1935 to investigate the possible synonymy of this species with A. rostratum Trewavas, 1935 as suggested by Eccles and Trewavas (1989) and Konings (1995). Non-type material of A. macrochir in the BMNH, London certainly looks very similar and may be conspecific with A. rostratum."
