Biology     Glossary (e.g. epibenthic)

Occurs in ponds (Ref. 11229). Inhabits shallow, densely vegetated microhabitats in small streams or along the banks of larger rivers (Ref. 106564). Feeds mostly on fishes (Ref. 598). Two rodents (Sigmodontinae) were found in the stomachs of two individuals in different rivers located in the southern Brazilian Atlantic Rain Forest, in March and November 2010. These represent the first records of this species feeding on mammals (Ref. 106564).

Estimates based on models

Phylogenetic diversity index (Ref. 82804):  PD50 = 0.5000   [Uniqueness, from 0.5 = low to 2.0 = high].
Bayesian length-weight: a=0.00776 (0.00502 - 0.01201), b=3.03 (2.91 - 3.15), in cm total length, based on LWR estimates for this species & Genus-body shape (Ref. 93245).
Trophic level (Ref. 69278):  4.2   ±0.73 se; based on food items.
Generation time: 1.5 ( na - na) years. Estimated as median ln(3)/K based on 1 growth studies.
Resilience (Ref. 120179):  High, minimum population doubling time less than 15 months (Preliminary K or Fecundity.).
Fishing Vulnerability (Ref. 59153):  Low vulnerability (22 of 100).
Nutrients (Ref. 124155):  Calcium = 68.1 [18.5, 168.3] mg/100g; Iron = 1.55 [0.81, 3.65] mg/100g; Protein = 19.2 [17.2, 21.4] %; Omega3 = 0.843 [0.346, 2.269] g/100g; Selenium = 33.5 [13.3, 74.1] μg/100g; VitaminA = 46.9 [15.2, 140.5] μg/100g; Zinc = 0.957 [0.665, 1.374] mg/100g (wet weight);
