Occurs in the littoral and sub-littoral zone, especially where the substrate is hard and usually where there is submerged vegetation (Ref. 5648). Feeds mainly on mollusks (particularly Lamellibranchiata). Insects (esp. Ephemeroptera, Trichoptera and Chironomidae together with crustaceans and Hydracarina) were ingested less frequently (Ref. 558).
