Body elongate and moderately compressed; snout prominent; lower jaw slightly prominent, with one pair of larger canine teeth; remaining teeth set in narrow bands; edge of preopercle slightly serrate; lower branch of first gill arch with 14 to 16 gill rakers; body silvery; back metallic blue; flanks striped, sometimes indistinctly; fins pale with dark tips (Ref. 55763).
Found in shallow water, entering estuaries and river mouths (Ref. 9118). Forms schools (Ref. 9118). Feeds mainly on crustaceans and pelagic fishes (Ref. 9118).
