At least 5 irregular broad black bands across sides, bands interspersed with large spots and irregular markings (Ref. 43716). Longitudinal scales 28-32; TRB 8-11; predorsal scales small, reaching to above preopercular margin; scales on body mostly ctenoid; first spine of dorsal fin longest and often filamentous (Ref. 43716). Caudal fin rounded (Ref. 43716).
Facultative air-breathing in the genus (Ref. 126274); Known only from Lake Matano where it was observed to stay close by or seek shelter in empty shells of the gastropod Brotia gemmifera (Ref. 43716). Feeds on tiny short-spired gastropods (Ref. 43716).
