Diagnosis: distance from snout to dorsal-fin base 43-55% of SL; body depth 6.7-7.0x and head length 4.6-4.7x SL; eye diameter 3.1-3.3x head length; scale formula 8.5-9.5/45-46/4.5; 14 scales around caudal peduncle; 8 dorsal-fin branched rays; 14 anal-fin branched rays; 9 dark vertical bars on sides (Ref. 2940, 81282).
Affinities: Engraulicypris Boulenger, 1911 (East African relative). Raiamas. most elongated body of Leptocypris group.
