Freshwater; benthopelagic. Tropical; 10°N - 15°S
Africa: present in the Ogowe, Ntem and Nyong Rivers (Ref. 81639). In the middle Congo River basin known from the Sangha, Ubangi, Tshuapa and from the lower Lomami to the lower Lualaba (Ref. 26765).

Occurs over sandy-muddy substrates near aquatic vegetation composed mainly of the water hyacinth Eichornia crassipes and reed; also occurs over rocks without vegetation (Ref. 27625).
