Teleostei (teleosts) >
Gobiiformes (Gobies) >
Gobiidae (Gobies) > Gobiinae
Etymology: Priolepis: Greek, prio = to saw + Greek, lepis = scale (Ref. 45335); eugenius: Origin of name unclear; either from Greek 'eugenes' for well-born or noble, or less likely from Greek 'eu' for true or original and Latin 'genius', the protecting attendant spirit of a person or place. Both interpretations do not seem especially appropriate for this drab little fish (Ref. 10753).
