Etymology: Apristurus: a-, Latin privative, i.e., without; pristis, from pristes (Gr.), sawyer (but here meaning saw); oura (Gr.), tail, referring to absence of saw-toothed crest of enlarged dermal denticles along upper edge of caudal fin as found in the closely related Pristiurus (=Galeus) (See ETYFish); sibogae: Of the ship Siboga and Indonesian expedition (1898-1899) of the same name, during which holotype was collected (See ETYFish).
Eponymy: These species are named after the ship ‘Siboga’; some after the Indonesian expedition (1898– 1899) of the same name, during which the holotypes were collected. [...] (Ref. 128868), visit book page.
