This species is distinguished by the following characters: pectoral-fin rays ii, 14-15; gill rakers 10-12; body is moderately elongate, depth 3.2-3.6 in SL; head length is equal to or a little more than body depth; diameter of eye about equal to or a little less than snout length, 0.9-1.4 in snout; lower margin of eye is just above a line from tip of snout to upper pectoral-fin base; suborbital is moderately deep, its lower edge slightly emarginate, least depth 1.2-1.7 in eye diameter; an imaginary line extend upward from posterior edge of suborbital reaching dorsal profile somewhere between 3-7 scale rows before origin of dorsal fin; pectoral fins are moderately long, reaching to or just beyond level of vent; pelvic fins are very long, reaching to or just beyond origin of anal fin; caudal fin with the upper rays pointed or produced to form short filament (Ref. 116612).
