Etymology: Eviota: No etymology given, suggested by Christopher Scharpt: from Latin 'eu' for 'true' and 'iota' for anything very small, in combination 'truly very small' referring to it as being the smallest vertebrate at the time it has benn described by Jenkins (thus, making the suggestion by Scharpt plausible; amphipora: Name from Greek words 'amphi' meaning on both sides or double, and 'poros' for hole, referring to the pair of PITO pores, one on each side of the interorbital area; name treated as a feminine nominative singular adjective.

Identification keys | Morphology | Morphometrics
Dorsal spines (total): 7; Dorsal soft rays (total): 9; Anal spines: 1; Anal soft rays: 8. This species can be distinguished by the following set of characters: canal pore system with only SOT and paired PITO pores; dorsal/anal fin-ray formula of 9/8; 1 or more pectoral-fin rays are branched; the fifth pelvic-fin ray is rudimentary; with 2 diagonal dark-brown bars across pectoral-fin base; first dorsal fin crossed by 2 wide black bars, the second dorsal fin with 3 fully black vertical bars extending up from base of fin, and a smaller fourth bar at end of posterior fin rays (Ref. 122933).
Specimens were collected on a sheltered patch reef in Sideia Bay, in 12 m depth. These individuals were living in small holes in dead-coral pavement between live massive coral colonies (Ref. 122933).
