This species can be diagnosed from all other known congeners by the combination of the following characters: body with 10-11 bands, coalesced on caudal peduncle region; 3 pairs of barbels, longer than eye diameter; lateral line complete; caudal fin truncated and without bands; and absence of black spot at the upper extremity of caudal-fin base (Ref. 95217).
