Biology     Glossary (e.g. epibenthic)

Found on the bottom and in midwater of the upper reaches of rivers and hill streams with fast-running and clear water and gravel substrate (Ref. 57453). Preferably forms schools and feeds mainly on aquatic insects, benthic invertebrates and algae adhering to the surface of the gravel and plant detritus (Ref. 57453). Reaches sexual maturity at approximately 10 cm SL and is a fractional spawner (Ref. 57453). Used as a food fish but eggs are poisonous which can lead to diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and dizziness (Ref. 57453).

Estimates based on models

Phylogenetic diversity index (Ref. 82804):  PD50 = 0.5000   [Uniqueness, from 0.5 = low to 2.0 = high].
Bayesian length-weight: a=0.00912 (0.00294 - 0.02831), b=3.02 (2.77 - 3.27), in cm total length, based on LWR estimates for this (Sub)family-body shape (Ref. 93245).
Trophic level (Ref. 69278):  2.7   ±0.3 se; based on size and trophs of closest relatives
Resilience (Ref. 120179):  High, minimum population doubling time less than 15 months (Preliminary K or Fecundity.).
Fishing Vulnerability (Ref. 59153):  Low vulnerability (10 of 100).
Price category (Ref. 80766):   Unknown.
