Etymology: Fundulus: Latin, fundus = bottom; a peculiar name for a topminnow, coined for a bottom species of Atlantic coast being "the abode of the fundulus mudfish" (Ref. 45335); julisia: Derived from the Cherokee amjulisi atsat meaning watercress fish (Ref. 10294).

Freshwater; benthopelagic; non-migratory. Temperate; 10°C - 25°C (Ref. 2059); 36°N - 35°N
North America: upper Caney Fork (Cumberland River drainage) and upper Duck River (Tennessee River drainage) systems in central Tennessee, USA.

Occur in vegetated pools and margins of springs and spring-fed headwaters and creeks (Ref 5723, 10294). 9.4 cm TL (Ref. 5723). Juveniles feed primarily on microcrustacea and midges; adults consume amphipods and isopods, small mayflies, terrestrial insects, and snails (Ref. 10294). Not a seasonal killifish (Ref. 27139).
