Dorsal spines (total): 8 - 9; Dorsal soft rays (total): 7 - 8; Anal soft rays: 8 - 10; Vertebrae: 40 - 42. This species is distinguished by the following characters: two pairs of patches of barbels on the ventral surface of snout, with 10-13 barbels in both patches on each side; upper preopercular spine with a well-expanded lateral keel; 2-2.5 plates in DLR between tip of depressed first dorsal fin and origin of second dorsal fin; the dorsal and lateral plates of caudal peduncle with pronounced spines; body sides behind head without transverse black bands; general body background colour is greenish-brown (Ref. 130867).
