Dorsal spines (total): 7; Dorsal soft rays (total): 8 - 9; Anal spines: 1; Anal soft rays: 8 - 9. Diagnosis: Seven large regular orange red bars along the side of the body; a dark spot on the lower base of the pectoral fin, and another on the lower peduncle; internal pigmentation on the dorsal surface of the head just behind eyes well-developed but broadly diffused, not forming a discreet bar. Predorsal scales absent. Second dorsal spine slightly to very elongate. A moderate interorbital and variably-developed postorbital trench. The fifth pelvic fin ray is unbranched and 50-70% of the length of the fourth.
Inhabits coral reefs in 0-40 m (Ref. 90102).
