Short description
Identification keys | Morphology | Morphometrics
Differs from its congeners in Indochina by the combination of the following characters: caudal fin with 8+8 branched rays; pelvic fin with 7 rays; lateral line incomplete and not reaching beyond anal-fin origin; color patterns with 7-10 dark bars on body wider than interspaces and regularly shaped and set, forming saddles in larger specimens; bars usually meeting their homologues on back; black bar at caudal base complete, not reaching dorsal or ventral midlines; caudal fin slightly emarginate (Ref. 40772).
Most abundant in riffles and rapids, but also found in slow moving sandy river sections (Ref. 40772). This species is very resistant to organic pollution and occurs in streams that flow through villages and towns, being often one of the last fish species surviving (Ref. 40772).
