Eponymy: Gabriel de Bustamenté was a Brazilian slave trader on São Tomé Island, Gulf of Guinea. His occupation did not stop Greef describing him as the ‘hospitable and intelligent’ (translation) owner of a farm situated on São Tomé. (Ref. 128868), visit book page.

Issue
Not the same as Sicydium bustamantei Greef, 1884 (Ref. 59830), which is synonym of Lentipes bustamantaei Boulenger 1916. See taxonomic and nomenclatural details in Eschmeyer (CofF ver. Oct. 2012: Ref. 92135), issues that remain to be fixed.

Environment: milieu / climate zone / depth range / distribution range Ecology

Freshwater; demersal; amphidromous (Ref. 92840). Tropical

Estimates based on models

Phylogenetic diversity index (Ref. 82804):  PD50 = 0.5000   [Uniqueness, from 0.5 = low to 2.0 = high].
Bayesian length-weight: a=0.01000 (0.00353 - 0.02836), b=3.08 (2.84 - 3.33), in cm total length, based on LWR estimates for this (Sub)family-body shape (Ref. 93245).
Trophic level (Ref. 69278):  2.2   ±0.1 se; based on size and trophs of closest relatives
Resilience (Ref. 120179):  Medium, minimum population doubling time 1.4 - 4.4 years (Preliminary K or Fecundity.).
Fishing Vulnerability (Ref. 59153):  Low vulnerability (14 of 100).
