Etymology: Astroblepus: Greek, astra = ray + Greek, blepo = to look (Ref. 45335).
Eponymy: Georges Ubidia was a student of parasitologist Otto Fuhrmann. He collected the holotype of this catfish, but we know nothing more about him. (Ref. 128868), visit book page.
