Distinguished from congeners in British Isles by having the following combination of characters: body pinkish grey with many large pale pinkish spots, belly white to dull orange-pink; pectoral, pelvic and anal fins reddish brown, pelvic and anal fins with narrow anterior white margin; body depth about 22% SL; eye diameter about 5.5-6.0 times in HL (Ref. 59043).
A lacustrine species. Attains a maximum size of up to about 26 cm SL (Ref. 59043).
