Body transparent in life.
Inhabits rivers and estuaries (Ref. 4833). Occurs in slow flowing water and swamps, often in backwaters (Ref. 43281). Found in fresh and brackish water in the lower courses of rivers. Feeds mainly on zooplankton. Not seen in markets (Ref. 12693).
