Lateral line incomplete; height of dorsal fin greater than body depth; body very slender with long fins (Ref. 12693).

Biology     Glossary (e.g. epibenthic)

Found in peats and secondary peat forest streams (Ref. 57235). Common in forest streams and clear black waters (Ref. 56749). Occurs at midwater levels to surface in shallow sluggish and standing waters, marshes and swamps, usually under forest canopies. Appears to prefer soft acidic water that is often tannin-stained. Found in small openings of generally dense vegetation. Feeds on zooplankton and some insects. Not seen in markets, but popular in aquarium trade (Ref. 12693).

Estimates based on models

Phylogenetic diversity index (Ref. 82804):  PD50 = 0.7500   [Uniqueness, from 0.5 = low to 2.0 = high].
Bayesian length-weight: a=0.00575 (0.00246 - 0.01344), b=3.08 (2.88 - 3.28), in cm total length, based on LWR estimates for this (Sub)family-body shape (Ref. 93245).
Trophic level (Ref. 69278):  3.3   ±0.43 se; based on food items.
Resilience (Ref. 120179):  High, minimum population doubling time less than 15 months (Preliminary K or Fecundity.).
Fishing Vulnerability (Ref. 59153):  Low vulnerability (10 of 100).
Price category (Ref. 80766):   Unknown.
