Remarks | This genus is distinguished by the following characters: narrow suborbital space, its width less than 4% SL; its upper jaw not covered by the suborbitals, the free edge reaching posterior margin of the orbit; teeth present on the vomer and palatine; teeth on jaws weak (mobile), bristle-shaped and densely distributed, brush-shaped in the anterior part; numerous teeth on the vomer (up to 20 teeth on the head of the vomer); teeth on the palatine in 2 rows; D 25-32; vertebrae (without the urostyle) more than 35; lateral line present. |
