Comments | max length; depth; 7.76 cm SL; 80 m; This genus is distinguishable from other acropomatids by the following set of characters: 14 caudal vertebrae; dorsal spines 9; A II; conical teeth on the anterior part of the outer margin with a large canine tooth on the inner margin of the upper jaw; several canine teeth with a large canine tooth medially on the lower jaw; spine on the posttemporal bone; anus situated close to the origin of the anal fin. Amioides grossidens has several canine teeth on the lower jaw, which are very similar to those of Synagrops, but it has conical teeth on the anterior part of the outer margin of upper jaw, which are not found in the latter genus but similar to only Acropoma and Doederleinia among acropomatids. The other genera do not have conical teeth on the outer margin of upper jaw, and Malakichthys even lacks a large canine tooth on the inner margin (Ref. 87237). |
