Diagnosis: Head and anterior body yellowish to brownish, unpaired fin margins white or yellow, and pectoral fin margin yellow to orange in male (Ref. 91031).
Description: Slender species of moderate size, usually with streamers to the upper and lower corner of the caudal fin of the male (Ref. 57261).
Coloration: Male: the dorsal regions are brown in colour and the sides have a strong blue-green iridescence with irregularly distributed red spots, sometimes forming irregular horizontal lines; the dorsal fin is blue-green with some red spots and a red submarginal band; the anal fin is blue-green with red spots and a red band; the central part of the caudal fin is also blue-green with red spots, usually forming crossbars; along the upper and lower parts of this fin a red submarginal is present, followed by a yellow margin which continues into short streamers (Ref. 57261). Female: general body colour is yellow-brown with markings on the side similar to those of the male but grey in colour rather than red; the unpaired fins are colourless to blue-brown with some dark grey markings near the base (Ref. 57261). |
