Diagnosis: scales with reduced number parallel to slightly divergent striae; small inferior mouth, lower lip covered by thin layer of `horn'; transverse, more or less deeply notched, lobe in front of mouth covering upper lip; two pairs of short barbels; dorsal fin without ossified ray but with 8 branched rays; last of simple dorsal rays about as long as head (Ref. 2940, 81282).
Description: pharyngeal teeth aligned in 3 rows, numbering 2-3-4-4-3-2; 4.5 scales between lateral line and pelvic-fin base; characters defining genus are to be considered as intermediate characters between Labeo and large Barbus species; D:III,8; A:III,5 (Ref. 2940, 81282).
Coloration: brownish dorsal part, belly paler; lighter bottom part; broad, dark lateral band from gill cover to extremity of caudal peduncle; base of caudal and dorsal fin yellowish-orange in life (Ref. 2940, 81282). |
