Type of sound produced croaks
Sound production organ swim bladder with drumming muscles in males only & pharyngeal teeth in close proximity to swim bladder in both sexes (similar to Cynoscion regalis)
Sound mechanism unspecified, but probably similar to Cynoscion regalis
Behavioural context probably spontaneous sound production (croaking), could be one ot the unidentified, scianeid-type choruses recorded in coastal NW Atlantic
Reference Fish, M.P. and W.H. Mowbray, 1970
Remark no recordings available due to poor conditions of experimental animals, but sound production has been reported by fishermen
