Definition of Term

pelvic girdle
(English) The skeletal support for the pelvic fins. May be free, or may attach anteriorly to the pectoral girdle. Consists of paired bones, the basipterygia. Absent in some species, the apodal fishes. (See also: pelvic fins, pectoral girdle, skeleton)
