Definition of Term

bycatch
(English) Species taken incidentally in a fishery; bycatch species may be of lesser value than the target species, and are often discarded. Some bycatch species are of commercial value and are retained for sale. Bycatch often consists of the juveniles of commercial species, and their loss has a deleterious impact on the overall yield obtained from a certain area. (See also: incidental catch, fishery)
prise accessoire
(French) Espèce prise dans une pêche au hasard; les espèces du la capture accessoire peuvent être de la valeur moindre que l'espèce cible, et est souvent jeté. Quelques espèces de la prise accessoire sont de l'importance commerciale et sont retenues pour la vente. La prise accessoire consiste souvent en les juvéniles d'espèce de valeur commerçiale, et leur perte a un impact nuisible sur le rendement total obtenu d'une certaine région. captura acidental
(Portuguese) Espécies capturadas acidentalmente numa pescaria. Estas espécies podem não ter o valor da espécie alvo e são frequentemente deitadas fora.
