Definition of Term

lipid
(English) Fatty substances including fats, oils, waxes and sterols, produced by fishes as an energy store and/or in some species, to provide buoyancy; may be deposited in or around the swim bladder as fat, or as oil in the liver, skeleton or body muscles. (See also: swim bladder, buoyancy)
