Distribution: Africa: Uele River drainage, upper and middle Aruwimi River drainage (Ref. 26634) and the Itimbiri (Ref. 106290) (middle Congo River basin) in Democratic Republic of the Congo. Also recorded from the Yei River, a tributary to the White Nile in Sudan; this species replaces M. nanum in the non-forested regions of the north-eastern Congo basin (Ref. 26634).
