Description The South West Australia Large Marine Ecosystem extends from the estuary of the Murray-Darling river to Australia’s southwest edge at Cape Leeuwin. It is characterized by a narrow shelf and it includes the Great Australian Bight. It borders the Southern Ocean and the western boundary currents flowing into the West Wind Drift, which circulates around the continent of Antarctica. Its climate is temperate. It borders the states of South Australia and Western Australia (http://na.nefsc.noaa.gov/lme/text/lme43.htm).
