The largest right (W) tributary of the Volga (Ref. 6318). Oka (Russia), river, western Russia. The river originates south of Orël and flows 1,480 km (920 mi) north and northeast through highly populated agricultural and industrial areas, to Nizhniy Novgorod. At Nizhniy Novgorod it joins the Volga River, of which it is the chief western affluent (Encarta 2004)
