Larvae float upside down after hatching. Yolk is rounded. Anus is situated at a distance posterior to the yolk. Oil globules decrease in number and eventually disappear as the larvae grow.

At 10-12 mm, 35 peculiar transverse folds are present between the pelvic and anal fins which is more apparent in older larvae. Pigmentation: 6 rod shaped pigment patches are present on the ventral side of the body and on the dorsal side of the alimentary canal.
