Family:  Myctophidae (Lanternfishes), subfamily: Lampanyctinae
Max. size:  7 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  pelagic-oceanic; marine; depth range - 25 m
Distribution:  Eastern Pacific: California, USA (Ref. 7182) and Gulf of California to Peru and Chile.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 13-16; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 14-17; Vertebrae: 33-35. Branchiostegal rays: 8-11 (Ref. 31442).
Biology:  Epipelagic to mesopelagic (Ref. 31442). Oviparous, with planktonic eggs and larvae (Ref. 31442). Lipid content is 14.5 % in fresh body weight and wax ester is 82.2 % in total lipids (Ref. 9197).
