Family:  Nototheniidae (Cod icefishes), subfamily: Trematominae
Max. size:  31 cm TL (male/unsexed); max.weight: 276.3 g
Environment:  bathydemersal; marine; depth range 200 - 800 m
Distribution:  Southern Ocean: inner slope and continental shelf of Antarctica, except the Antarctic Peninsula. Two specimens are reported from South Orkney islands.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 6-7; Dorsal soft rays (total): 31-33; Anal soft rays: 34-36. Brownish with irregular indistinct darker crossbars, spinous dorsal blackish. Mouth and branchial cavities blackish (Ref. 11892).
Biology:  Adults feed on amphipods (mostly Themisto gaudichaudii), copepods, polychaetes, and mysids.
