Distribution:  North America: Mexico.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 16-16; Dorsal soft rays (total): 8-9; Anal spines: 7-7; Anal soft rays: 6-7. This species is distinguished by the following characters: D XVI,8-9; A VII,6-7; pectoral fin rays I,11-12; total gill rakers on the first branchial cleft 11-12; subopercular stain distinct although weakly intensified, this exposes sexual dimorphism that distinguishes it from others; females with a black blotch between the fifth and sixth dorsal spine (Ref. 117866).
