Family:  Cynoglossidae (Tonguefishes), subfamily: Symphurinae
Max. size:  22 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; brackish; marine; depth range 1 - 86 m
Distribution:  Western Atlantic: Caribbean (Cuba, Hispaniola and Puerto Rico), south to Uruguay.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 91-102; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 77-86
Biology:  Occurs in brackish waters, bays and coves (Ref. 36453). Reported from depths between 247.05 and 274.5 m (Ref. 26912).
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 22 August 2012 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
