Environment:  reef-associated; marine; depth range 0 - 146 m
Distribution:  Eastern Pacific: Redding Rock in northern California, USA to central Baja California, Mexico.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 12-13; Dorsal soft rays (total): 15-17; Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 8-10; Vertebrae: 26-26. Branchiostegal rays: 7 (Ref. 36715).
Biology:  Sometimes found well off bottom, in or near kelp or over rocky reefs (Ref. 2850). Juveniles are pelagic (Ref. 36715). Viviparous, with planktonic larvae (Ref. 36715).
