Family:  Sebastidae (Rockfishes, rockcods and thornyheads), subfamily: Sebastinae
Max. size:  65 cm TL (male/unsexed); max.weight: 3,140.0 g; max. reported age: 20 years
Environment:  demersal; marine; depth range 3 - 100 m
Distribution:  Northwest Pacific: Japan, the Korean Peninsula and China.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 13-13; Dorsal soft rays (total): 11-13; Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 6-8
Biology:  Found near shore, on rock bottoms (Ref. 11230). Juveniles associate with drifting seaweed (Ref. 12114, 12115). Ovoviviparous (Ref. 205). Commercially cultured in Japan. The species can be easily reared in aquaria (Ref. 5474).
