Family:  Sebastidae (Rockfishes, rockcods and thornyheads), subfamily: Sebastinae
Max. size:  25 cm TL (male/unsexed); max. reported age: 12 years
Environment:  demersal; marine; depth range 18 - 256 m
Distribution:  Eastern Central Pacific: San Francisco, California, USA to central Baja California, Mexico.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 12-14; Dorsal soft rays (total): 12-14; Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 6-7; Vertebrae: 26-27. Branchiostegal rays: 7 (Ref. 36715).
Biology:  Adults occur on or near soft bottom (Ref. 2850). Adults feed on mysis, other shrimps, krill, and fishes (Ref. 131063). Viviparous, with planktonic larvae and pelagic juveniles (Ref. 36715).
