Western Indian Ocean: Red Sea, Gulf of Aqaba, Eilat (Israel) and Sinai Peninsula (Egypt). Also recorded from Indonesia (Ref. 90102). |
Diagnosis: |
Dorsal spines (total): 7-7; Dorsal soft rays (total): 21-22; Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 17-19; Vertebrae: 26-26. Fresh specimen gray-brown with pale yellowish blotches. The pale blotches on the body not interconnected. Opercle without dark brown or black spot. Brown-edged pale stripe extending posteriorly from lower part of the eye across the cheek to edge of the opercle. No dermal flap or small tentacle dorsally on eye. Long tubular anterior nostril at front of snout; when laid back reaching posterior nostril; when bent forward reaching front of upper lip. One incomplete lateral line. Longitudinal scale series 52-53. Caudal peduncle depth 2.85-2.95 in head; length 5.05-5.3 in head. |
