Dorsal spines (total): 3-3; Dorsal soft rays (total): 26-26; Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 15-15; Vertebrae: 10-16. Presence of a large, dark grey to black sub-basal ovoid spot on the caudal fin and dark stripes on body.
Description: Characterized by reddish or orange head color; purplish grey body with 7-8 narrow dark stripe between scale rows on side of body; anterior lateral line scales 17-26; predorsal scales 16-17; depth of body 22.9-23.3 % of SL (Ref. 90102). |
Found among the interstices of overlapping laminar corals or near the bases of whorled corals on coral reef drop-offs in depths of 18-20 m, also in crevices in 15-37 m depth. Solitary (Ref 90102). |
