Max. size:  9 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  reef-associated; marine
Distribution:  Western Indian Ocean: Pakistan to Durban, South Africa (Ref. 5471); misidentification of P. aldabraensis in the Persian Gulf (Ref. 68964).
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 3-3; Dorsal soft rays (total): 28-33; Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 16-19
Biology:  Common among shoreline rocks and corals. Guards eggs laid in empty shells (Ref. 9710).
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 13 August 2019 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
