Family:  Chaetodontidae (Butterflyfishes)
Max. size:  13.6 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  reef-associated; marine; depth range 60 - 230 m
Distribution:  Western Atlantic: known from several localities in the West Indies and ranging south to São Paulo, Brazil (Ref. 57756).
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 13-13; Dorsal soft rays (total): 20-20; Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 15-15
Biology:  Inhabit steep offshore rocky reefs (Ref. 47838). Feed on sponges, filamentous algae and small crustaceans (Ref. 9626). Rarely seen except from submersibles below 100 m (Ref. 9710). Oviparous (Ref. 205). Form pairs during breeding (Ref. 205).
