Family:  Sparidae (Porgies)
Max. size:  45 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; marine; depth range 40 - 80 m
Distribution:  Western Indian Ocean: Delagoa Bay, Mozambique to East London, South Africa.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 11-11; Dorsal soft rays (total): 11-12; Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 10-11. Grey-blue to bronzy, lighter below; forehead, cheeks and fins darker.
Biology:  Caught in deeper water. Feeds on crustaceans, small mollusks and algae. Rarely caught by line fishers. Flesh excellent.
