Dorsal spines (total): 15-17; Dorsal soft rays (total): 19-21; Anal spines: 7-9; Anal soft rays: 15-17. Diagnosis: A member of the deep-bodied clade of Paretroplus and distinguished from all congeners by the presence of a pinstriped lateral pigmentation pattern comprising numerous longitudinal series of prominent black spots on the flanks, owing to the presence of one large spot on each scale; Paretroplus is also unique among congeners in possessing a conspicuous black interorbital stripe and suborbital blotch (Ref. 78623). |
