Family:  Ambassidae (Asiatic glassfishes)
Max. size:  24 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; freshwater
Distribution:  Asia and Oceania: northern Australia and south-central New Guinea.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 8-8; Dorsal soft rays (total): 10-11; Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 9-10
Biology:  Occurs in relatively large rivers characterized by high turbidity . Feeds primarily on small fishes, prawns (Ref. 5259, 44894) and crustaceans. Breeds in the dry season (June-July) (Ref. 44894). Is the largest member of the family (Ref. 5259).
