Diagnosed from Pachychilon pictum by having broad black stripe from tip of snout to middle of caudal fin base, separating silvery belly from dark brown dorsum, a vertically elongated black blotch at caudal base (stripe and blotch hardly distinct in life), lower lip with a small squarish median lone; lateral line with 35-39 + 2 scales; and anal fin with 8½ branched rays (Ref. 59043). |
Occurs in marshlands, lakes, and water courses on the low plains, with little current. Threatened due to water abstraction (Ref. 26100). |
